Voodoo5 5500 - 16-bit vs 32-bit Performance

As always, we were interested to see exactly how the new Voodoo5 5500 drivers effect the card's 16-bit and 32-bit performance. By testing Quake III Arena at both 1024x768 as well as 1600x1200, we could judge how the new drivers impact 16-bit and 32-bit performance

At 1024x768, the updated Voodoo5 5500 drivers seem to help 32-bit performance more than 16-bit performance. At 1024x768x32, the Voodoo5 5500 only improved by 3% or 2.3 FPS. On the other hand, 32-bit performance increased by 9%, as we saw in our previous Quake III Arena tests.

At 1600x1200, the performance increase given by the later 1.04.01 drivers seem to favor 32-bit color once again. At 1600x1200x16, the newer drivers result in a 5% performance increase and at 1600x1200x32 they result in a 10% increase.
